Only a 15 minute drive away from the bustling town of Papine, Skyline Levels provides an intimate, picturesque and conducive setting for creativity, production, recording, rehearsal and performing arts. The Skyline Levels recording studio, rehearsal room and video production suite represent the creative production arm of the facility. These provide the foundation for a covered open-air split-level and self-contained Skyline Levels Performance Centre which includes a raised stage area and different levels for viewing the performances with a standing capacity of approximately 450 persons. The facility encompasses the Skyline Levels bar and grill, which patrons can enjoy from Tuesdays to Saturdays in a naturally intoxicating atmosphere, with the blend of warm sea breeze from the Kingston harbour and crisp mountain breeze which wafts in from the famous Jamaican Blue Mountains.
Beyond music, which is the heartbeat of the facility, the Skyline Levels Performance Centre is acknowledged as a cultural oasis for a wide variety of social, spiritual, health, culinary, educational and media-related activities. The range of events hosted and presented at “Levels” includes art exhibitions, film screenings, open mic, poetry readings, culinary food tastings, stand-up comedy, fitness classes, yoga sessions, discussion fora and video training workshops. The “Levels” venue also continues to provide an enchanting site for exclusive private parties, and special events such as weddings and award ceremonies.
While Skyline Levels patronage is mainly local Jamaican, the facility is open to tourists and international visitors to Jamaica who can savour the opportunity to experience “Roots Jamaica”. Skyline Levels partners with Skyline Bed and Breakfast that mostly host visitors interested in Kingston. Skyline Levels also partners with Reggae Vacations to offer “Roots Level Tours” providing visits to some of the more exclusive and unique opportunities for experiencing roots and reggae culture in Jamaica. The Bed and Breakfast is also available to artistes-in-residence from across the world associated with Skyline Levels productions.
Skyline Levels is the brainchild of reggae songwriters and musicians Errol McDonald otherwise called Makaya Chakula and Kerida Scott (aka Goldilocks). Levels was built as a platform for creative and all-original works. The vision was for like-minded people to have a space to collaborate and bring together their creative expressions with positive vibrations for real nation building. With small investments and creative design in construction, the couple built the beginnings of Skyline Levels with a small recording facility as the heart of the vision. Since then numerous musicians and other creatives have participated in many projects at Levels and the facility has expanded to become a full-fledged music complex. It is has over the years become a centre for life-style change and spiritual upliftment. The vision lives in the next generation for in raising their 5 children around music, visual art, performing arts and community work, their 5 children have taken up their own respective culture and community works.
